Capernaum

And leaving Nazareth, he went and settled in Capernaum, beside the lake, on the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali. (Mt. 4,13)

The location of Capernaum by the Sea of Galilee gave the city a great importance since ancient times. Besides it lies near the famous trade road known as Via Maris (Way of the Sea). This made of the city a crossroad for commerce, import, export and of course culture. In spite of its small geographic dimensions, it was so crowded that the Romans assigned the legion of 100 soldiers in order to protect their interests from the abundant revenues they use to collect as taxes. Jesus chooses Capernaum to be the base of public ministries where he settled in the house of Peter. He made several miracles and most important he pronounced the famous theological discourse of the "Bread of Life" in the synagogue of the city. Capernaum became to be called "The City of Jesus".

You'll visit the House of Peter and you'll see the place where the Lord lied down to rest and sleep. You'll discover the houses of firs century Capernaum and you'll understand more the Gospel as you read it in the same place the events happened. You'll enter the Synagogue and hear Jesus preaching the real Bread of Life.
