Mount of Olives – Ascension

  Single Room

As he said this he was lifted up while they looked on, and a cloud took him from their sight.
So from the Mount of Olives, as it is called, they went back to Jerusalem, a short distance. (Ac. 1,9–12)

A small hill of around 2600 ft above sea level. Located west of Bethany and separated from Jerusalem by the Kidron Valley. It seems to be rich of olive trees in ancient times, besides being a cemetery for those who believed that the coming of the Messiah will take place on top of this hill. This is the place that Jesus chose to ascend to heaven at the eyes of his disciples.

As you visit the Chapel of the Ascension and start your descent down the hill, you will enjoy a memorable view of the Holy City from the top of this mount. You will be able to follow with your eyes the steps of the Lord in the last day of his stay on earth: cross the Kidron Valley, up to the Last Supper Room, back through the Kidron to the Gethsemane garden, then up to the House of Caiaphas where he was taken first, then to the royal palace of Herods down to the Antonia Fortress and from there following the way of the cross to the Golgotha.
