The Church of the Holy Sepulcher

And the place where he had been crucified there was a garden, and in this garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been buried......they laid Jesus there. (Jn. 19,41-42)

Peter set out with the other disciple to go to the tomb. They ran together......went into the tomb, saw the linen cloths lying on the ground......he saw and he believed. Till this moment they had still not understand the scriptures, that he must rise from the dead. (Jn. 20, 3-4; 8-9)

The Golgotha was a place of punishment and execution set by the Romans. It was outside the Holy City, not far and on one of the major roads leading to it. Crucifixion was the utmost death penalty for murderers, thieves, rebels and revolutionaries. The way of crucifying was meant to prolong the pains and suffering of the condemned. Finally they used to break his knees so that the weight is his stomach will dump down and the breathing canals would close. He dies asphyxiated. Jesus was already dead....
The angel said to the women: "He is not here, he has risen" (Lk. 24,6). Come and see by your own eyes that the Tomb is empty and believe like Peter and John. This is the essence of our Christian Faith: the Resurrection. He had conquered death though death. Be the witness of this miracle that happened one time and that changed the course of history. Now you are part of this history.
